Happy New Year
2024 has been an incredible year for me, filled with creative growth, exciting projects, and fantastic collaborations. As I look back, I’m filled with gratitude for the amazing people and companies I’ve worked with, and the milestones I’ve achieved along the way. At the start of the year, I set myself a series of goals, and I’m thrilled to say that I surpassed every single one of them. Here’s a recap of my journey in 2024:
The Rise of ‘The Photoshop Guy’
Early in 2024, I fully embraced the nickname ‘The Photoshop Guy’ and incorporated it into my brand. This decision proved transformative, boosting my recognition as a photo editor to new heights. Within the first three months, I was honoured to receive an SME Award for Best Photo Editor and Retoucher in the UK. This recognition not only validated my hard work but also opened doors to new opportunities.
Fully Converted to Mirrorless
At the start of 2024, I bid farewell to my trusty F-Mount Nikon DSLRs and lenses, embracing the Nikon Mirrorless Z range entirely. I upgraded from the Nikon D850 and D750 to the cutting-edge Z8 and Z6ii, and replaced all my lenses with premium S-line Z-mount glass. The transition took two months to complete, but the results have been more than worth it. The new mirrorless system delivers outstanding image quality, exceptional speed, and superior performance, making it a game-changer for my photography.
Licensing Success with Major Brands
A particularly exciting development this year was being approached by an agent who wanted to represent my work. Throughout the year, we collaborated to license my images to some of the world’s biggest brands, including Google, Apple, and Microsoft. Seeing my work featured in such prominent spaces has been a career highlight and a testament to the power of perseverance and collaboration.
Advancing My Portrait Photography
As portraits remain my favourite genre of photography, I set out to push my skills further in this area. I committed to monthly portrait projects, which not only enhanced my portfolio but also allowed me to connect with incredible new models in Wales and London. These collaborations were inspiring and have helped me refine my craft as a portrait photographer. See below a video highlight of my favorite photos I took in 2024
Expanding into Product and Commercial Photography
One of my goals for 2024 was to attract companies to hire me for product and clothing photography. I’m thrilled to have succeeded in this area, working with businesses from around the globe, including the United States, China, and Italy. Capturing the essence of their products and seeing my work used in marketing campaigns has been incredibly rewarding.
Building Global Relationships in Photo Editing
Another major focus for me this year was expanding my photo editing services. From the start of 2024, I experienced an overwhelming response from companies around the world. I’ve built fantastic working relationships with numerous businesses and some very big brands. Although confidentiality prevents me from naming them, I’m proud of the trust they’ve placed in me to handle their photo editing needs.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As I step into 2025, I haven’t set any concrete goals, but I do have a few video projects I’d like to bring to life and Photo Events that I have already started arranging. That said, much of my focus will remain on the areas that worked so well for me in 2024. My aim is to continue building on the success and connections I’ve established while staying open to new opportunities and challenges.
